During your initial consultation, your surgeon will assess your knee and order CT scans of your knee. These CT scans are used to create 3-D digital images of the knee. These images allow your surgeon to design a knee implant that is modeled exclusively for your anatomy.
During the actual partial knee resurfacing procedure, your surgeon uses a minimally invasive approach to remove the diseased portions of your knee. Once the damaged cartilage, bone spurs, and loose matter have been removed, the surgeon uses the tool’s robotic arm to align, position, and secure the patient-specific implant on your joint. Many patients are walking just hours after the procedure.

If you have early- to mid-stage osteoarthritis in just one or two of the knee’s three compartments you may be eligible for Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery partial knee resurfacing. This is a great alternative to having a total knee replacement (TKR).
